GAZA / JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Palestinian militants in Gaza on Saturday hit two rocky shores off the Mediterranean Sea and exploded off the shores of Tel Aviv, prompting retaliation, Israel said.
There has never been a time when Gaza militants fired or responded to comments from Hamas, an Islamic militant group that controls Palestinian territory.
Hamas sometimes tests rockets, chasing them into the sea. The Hamas-affiliated website Paltimes said, Saturday’s launch was probably not successful.
When it got dark, the Israeli army said it had hit “terrorists that took place on the Gaza Strip”.
Hamas Radio reported that some of the group’s security areas and training facilities were affected by Israeli aircraft and tanks. There were no casualties.
In a statement, Hamas Aqsa TV reported that the terrorists fired two cannons at Israeli aircraft. Israeli forces determined that a bomb had exploded on one of their planes, which had not been damaged.
In Gaza, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem blamed Israel for the increase.
The Israel-Gaza border has remained silent since the 11-day war in May. But on Wednesday, guns from Gaza injuring an Israeli civilian fired a tank fire from Israeli troops, injuring three Palestinians.
