New York – At least 19 people have been killed, including 9 children, and 63 injured in a fifth fire in a 19-story high-rise building in the Bronx.

ABC 7 New York reports:

At least 19 people have been killed, including nine children, in a blaze that broke out in a large house in Bronx Sunday, authorities said.

Officials say a five-alarm fire broke out in a duplex building on the third floor of a 19-story house at 333 East 181st Street in the Tremont district of the Bronx around 11 a.m. Sunday.

At a press conference, FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said 32 people had been sent to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, and at least 63 people had been injured. The main casualty of the 32 victims was a severe exhaustion of smoke.


More than 200 FDNY members are on site, according to a WYN reporter.
